The UK government has confirmed that non-essential shops can re-open to customers from 3 December if appropriate social distancing measures are put in place.
We have taken the difficult decision that our shop will open exclusively by appointment from 3 December for customers who are looking to purchase an instrument. We will remain closed to walk-in customers until further notice.
We feel that, working exclusively with wind instruments and the obvious hygiene issues that surround this, we need to take extra precautions above and beyond social distancing and basic cleanliness to ensure our shop remains safe for our customers and staff.
We have been planning for this for some time, and we feel confident that the measures we are introducing will enable us to operate safely.
From 3 December we will be open for you by appointment. Appointments will be bookable on our website, and you will be able to select a morning, afternoon or – occasionally – early evening slot. We will also be trialling opening on selected Sundays, and are offering video consultations which have been very successful in helping customers select an instrument.
We regret that our sheet music department will remain closed to walk-in customers, but our efficient mail order service is available and carries our full range with fast free delivery. We are offering a Click & Collect service, and continue to order in any special order items. Our workshop is open by appointment: please drop your instrument off at the door and do not enter the shop.
We will be using only one of our practice rooms, so you will be the only customers in the shop at any one time. We respectfully ask that you limit your group to two people from the same household: one person testing the instrument and an accompanying adult. We are not able to safely accommodate groups of three or more. Please bring your own music to test, and a bottle of water.
We have instructed our staff to not enter the practice room with you whilst you are playing.
We have hand sanitiser stations at strategic points in the shop, and ask that you clean your hands on arrival and observe government advice on hand hygiene. Please wear a mask in the shop outside of the practice room, and maintain a 2 metre distance from our staff at all times.
We have invested in a medical-grade UV-C light to fully sanitise the practice room after each customer. This light is so powerful in eliminating germs that it requires our staff to have full training on using it and to wear full PPE. We are confident that the room will be sterile at the start of every customer visit.
We will be thoroughly sanitising instruments after testing with a triple-safe new procedure. This includes a UV-C germicidal lamp treatment followed by cleaning with isopropyl 75% alcohol, followed by quarantining the instrument for 72 hours.
Due to the length of time it takes to fully sanitise an instrument after testing, and the corresponding quarantine period, we are limiting the number of instruments available for testing by any one customer, and have restricted our home approval scheme. We would recommend calling us before making an appointment so that we can help you narrow your choice down from the bewildering number of flutes on the market; we’re really very good at listening to your needs and establishing what will work for you and what won’t!
Please do not visit if you or someone you live with has a high temperature, a new continuous cough or a loss of, or change in sense of smell or taste.
Our staff have been asked to maintain a 2 metre distance from each other and from our customers and to follow government advice on hand hygiene.
