This wonderful book is just so good for beginner flutes, as shown by the format of the first piece, B Groovy. Theres only B used in the flute part, leaving the piano (acoustic or online) to give the music its jazz character. The 22 tunes all have titles to add extra interest and are progressive so there’s plenty of value here too. This is a life-saver of a book, excellent supplementary material for any standard tutor and brilliant fun for beginners of all ages! Difficulty Guide: 0-2
Victoria Rockport: Sticky Fingers for Flute


This great little book which develops basic flute skills is so useful. The twelve short exercises are all given titles so they add a musical point to a technical necessity, and the mix of solos and duets ensures that a different focus is given to each one. Oosthuizen and Oosthuizen: Little Demon Studies for Flute


This is a very good book for young beginners which tackles the basics of posture, articulation and breath control in easy bite-size pieces. There are no frills here but each piece has a line drawing to bring the music to life and a checklist of what to focus on. There are also words to help with rhythm and everything is in the low register. This is a solid book which is useful material for bridging the gap between tutor and simple repertoire. McDowall and Hunt: Harlequin for Flute and Piano
This is a great book which lists some original gems from Cecilia McDowell as well as her arrangements of pieces from Daquin to Sullivan. There are no duds here – each piece is really good and their progressive order makes it all easy to navigate. This is a bumper book of great tunes that is very good value too. Excellent!
